About the game

Step out of the movies and straight into the nightmare. Inspired by the yellow-hued, reality-bending phenomenon that has caught the imagination of horror fans, and is crushing the global box office, The Backrooms: Lost Tape invites you to experience the crushing dread of the internet's most infamous urban legend firsthand. In this hyper-immersive psychological survival horror, you won't just watch the infinite, hum-buzzing labyrinth - you will be trapped in it. Navigate an endless web of liminal spaces across distinct, disjointed Chapters presented as recovered VHS Tapes, where reality decays and the deeper you go, the less the universe remembers. THE TAPES • The Tape of Josh (The Usher): You play as an unsuspecting cinema usher who, while working a normal shift, slips through a tear in reality. Plunged into the sickeningly yellow, fluorescent-lit maze, you must decipher the cryptic rules of this endless dimension to escape. But you are not alone. Hostile, unpredictable entities patrol the halls, and they’ve smelled your panic. • The Tape of Nikolas (The Search Party): The mission is clear, but entirely un-sanctioned: descend into the abyss to find Josh after his sudden disappearance. Armed with a video camera, you’ll dive even deeper into the eerie lore, uncovering the dark remnants of research experiments and braving claustrophobic new levels that will completely unravel your grip on reality. KEY FEATURES • Pure Found-Footage Horror: A deeply atmospheric, visceral experience that captures the exact aesthetic, dread, and icily disturbing tone driving the modern cinematic horror. • Total Immersion (No HUD): No health bars. No inventory screens. No crosshairs. Just you, your camera lens, and the suffocating isolation of the rooms. • Photorealistic Next-Gen Graphics: Uncompromising, stunningly eerie visual design that brings the damp carpets, peeling wallpaper, and clinical lighting of the liminal mythos to life. • Intricate Environmental Puzzles: Use your wits to decode the surreal layouts of the rooms before the environment shifts around you. • A Growing Anthology of Terror: Multiple tapes feature unique perspectives, terrifying entity encounters, and an expanding, deep narrative web. Are you ready to experience the most faithful, bone-chilling representation of the Backrooms ever developed? The portal is open.
